45th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions to open

The 45th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions will be held at the Beijing International Hotel in Beijing, from March 26 to 28, 2015.

 

The auctions will feature over 3,000 items, which include Chinese paintings and calligraphy, porcelain, rare books, jade and works of art.

 

Online bidding for the session, A Collection of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from Dehuatang, will open for collectors at 10 am on March 21, 2016. Please complete your registration at the China Guardian website (www.woeiswo.com) 24 hours ahead.

 

Chinese paintings and calligraphy

 

In this section, about 2,200 items will be auctioned in six special sessions, namely, A Collection of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from Dehuatang, Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy I, Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy II, Contemporary Ink Painting, Modern Chinese Painting and Calligraphy III and Classical Chinese Painting and Calligraphy.

 

Several items highlight this section, including a traditional Chinese landscape painting of a lake and mountains by an anonymous artist, an album of figure paintings by master Sun Wen from the Qing Dynasty, the Chinese classic painting Plum and Crane by Ren Yu from the late Qing Dynasty and a fan painting, Viewing the Waterfall.

Porcelain and works of art

 

This section of the 45th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions is divided into five special sessions, namely, An Era of Inspiration, Porcelain, For the Enjoyment of Scholars, Arts from the Scholar’s Studio and Jade Jewelry and Works of Art.

 

The session An Era of Inspiration features porcelain from the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, which includes about 100 exquisite items. Among them, two blue-and-white vases from the reign of Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty are worthy of special attention. One painted with figures from the Chinese classic, Water Margin, the other painted with a scene of a visiting scholar.

The session Porcelain deliberately includes about 400 items from the royal kiln and famous folk kilns. A blue-and-white vase with a red dragon pattern from the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty highlights this session.

The session Arts from the Scholar’s Studio features all kinds of ink stones matched with different signets, letter papers and study appliances. An ancient ink stone with a Luohan (Arhat) pattern from the early Qing Dynasty is a highlight of the session.

For the jade and jewelry category, nearly 700 items will be available for auction. Among them, an exquisite jade carved with a landscape, figures, flowers and birds from the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty will be available for auction.

Furniture and works of art

 

About 80 items will be presented at the Classical Furniture and Works of Art session during the auction.

 

A partition screen, which is used to separate indoor space, is a popular piece of Chinese classical furniture. A six-partition screen from the Qing Dynasty will be available at this session.

The bian’e, or horizontal inscribed board, is a unique cultural symbol of China. With a history of more than 2,000 years since the Qin and Han Dynasties, bian’e integrates the arts of Chinese calligraphy, traditional Chinese architecture and sculpture. Several bian’e will be present at this session that are worthy of your attention.

Rare books and manuscripts

 

The 45th China Guardian Quarterly Auctions will present 533 pieces in this category. Among them, a collection of 10 books complied by Hu Guang from the Ming Dynasty is a highlight.
