China Guardian 2015 Autumn Auctions fetch RMB 1.83 billion

After five days of auctions, the China Guardian 2015 Autumn Auctions concluded with a total of 1.831billion yuan in sales on Nov 18, 2015.

China Guardian 2015 Autumn Auctions ended on a high note. It brought excitements to the industry, and offered us a chance to consider seriously on the future of the art market. In the next five years, it is going to be a critical moment for the restructuring of the auction industry of art. The days of wild growth are fading away, and a new era requiring intensive and meticulous cultivation is about to begin, said Hu Yanyan, president of China Guardian.

 

In general, the China Guardian 2015 Autumn Auctions highlighted four features, as follows:

 

Grand View Night enhances market confidence

The Grand View Night of China Guardian 2015 Autumn Auctions started its bidding on the night of Nov 15 attracting a large number of buyers. After a six-hour auction, the total sales volume reached about 920 million yuan.

 

During the session, "Grand View: Chinese Painting Highlight – Modern", artist Li Keran’s masterpiece, Thousands of Mountains in Autumn, was sold for a remarkable high price of 184 million yuan; artist Pan Tianshou’s Pine sold for 93.15 million yuan; artist Fu Baoshi’s Historian Figures sold for 79.93 million yuan; artist Qi Baishi’s Longevity sold for 41.4 million yuan; and artist Huang Zhou’s Women Playing Instruments sold for 40.83 million yuan.

 

While, in the session, "Grand View: Chinese Painting Highlight – Classical", the traditional Chinese painting, Forest Landscape with Thatch Cottage, created by artist Dong Qichang of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), was sold for 69 million yuan, an unexpected high in recent years.



Evening auctions of Chinese 20th century art and contemporary art: a great hit

 

For the very first time, China Guardian presented two evening auctions of Chinese 20th century art and contemporary art, finishing with a total transaction of 157 million yuan.

 

The sales volume for the "20th Century & Contemporary Chinese Art Evening Sale" was 127.6 million yuan, with a sales rate of 96 percent. The 13 items in the session "'85 New Wave Art - 30th Anniversary" were sold out, collecting 29.89 million yuan in sales.

 

Artist Shi Chong’s painting Delighted Young Man highlighted the session and sold for 37.9 million yuan. Artist Yee Bon’s The Later Return sold for 6.3 million yuan, and Ding Fang’s Stabat Mater (Diptych) sold for 11.5 million yuan, breaking auction price records of artists’ own creations.

Collection of rubbings and inscriptions becomes a fad



The Grand View Night of this year’s autumn auctions presented a special topic on “Old collections of rubbings and stone inscriptions by Wang Youlin”, which collected 12 items. Its sales rate was over 90 percent. Among them, an item that collects Southern Song Dynasty (1127 – 1279) rubbings was sold for 8.625 million yuan.

 

In the “Rare Books and Rubbing Books” session, the item Zhou San Shi Pan Ming Wen sold for 1.8 million yuan.

Online bidding gains popularity



To provide better service for buyers who couldn’t attend the auction, online bidding was provided.



Sales volume for "Fine and Rare Wines of the World" reached 10.7 million yuan, with a sales rate of 85 percent.
